I've beat the snot out of mine and haven't broken it.........yet!

I think diffs are one of those things that people get tunnel vision with. Sure a 12 bolt is better but with the right stuff a 7.5 can be good. Instead of saying go ahead do up a 7.5 people just shot it down. I say do it it's your car do what you want a 7.5 won't blow up.

410hp and 450lb-ft measured at the tires. The current 7.5 is still holding up, but I will be hesitant the first time I put the drag radials on and hit the track. I've broken several 7.5 with less motor. I've also had four axles come out on my on three separate occasions. I'm really tired of that happening.

i had the stock 305 grenade a 4.10 geared 7.5 in my GP i replaced it with a open 3.73 geared rearend and IT stood up to a 260HP ?? torque Targetmaster 350. It would do one wheel burnouts like nothing! It's still in good shape and i even bought most of all the parts to "upgrade"it but found a 8.5 instead... I think without slicks it should hold up fine! Now if your aiming to be a dragstrip racer then i would look into something else.

I am runnin 430 hp 3000 stall with 26/9 slicks in a LeMans with a mini spool and 26 spline axls. I have 102 runs on it this summer and had the cover off the other day for a check, still good as new.

I figure 275hp/350+tq. I broke the pins off my no slip with slicks. Went back to the open spiders, blew them up barely driving it hard. They took out the pinion and my $150 girdle cover, three days before the first test n tune. I would pick up an extra set of spiders just in case. Before I took a closer look, I threw spiders in it. Sounded like sh*t but would limp you home. A 7 5/8" posi with 28 spline axles would eliminate 2 weak spots. The Torsen posi out of the late Camaro/Firebird is supposed to be very tough. Remember how much power they had from the factory with only those upgrades.

The original posi 7.5 lasted 9 years of abuse with the stock 305. It had 2.29's. The next one lasted 2 summers. There was an engine upgade before it blew up and it was an open rearend. The 3rd one lasted 4 months. It came from a 78 442 and was a posi unit with 2.29's again. The engine upgrade tripled the original motors hp. Now I'm going with a 9"....

Going to a numericly high number for your rear gar will take alot of strain off it. I've got a 7.5 in my Cutlass drag car. Only upgrades are moser axles 4.56 rear gear, welded spider gears, and welded axle tubes. Holds up to over 500 horsepower and runs mid 10's.
