CHRIS.O said:Probably. A lot of people don't realize that sometimes having a 2.xx ratio can actually kill mileage. 3.23-3.42's in my opinion are about the best street gear for a 3 speed transmission. Overdrive's can handle 3.73 easily and 5 or 6 speed manuals can do 4.10's and still get good mileage with superior performance everywhere.
My Camaro had 4.10 with an M6 when I bought it It got 24 mpg before I put 315's on it.
Elco averaged 14hwy with the old 305 oil slinger. Swapped in the Vortec and 4l60e (adding about 100+hp) and it averages 18hwy with the smog gears. Completely stock motor with headers, cats are intact and no codes were thrown last time I checked. Might try a towing/RV cam sometime in the future but for now I wanna see how it does with 3.23's. stock camaro 3.42's are still in my camaro and will be available once I get a 9"
!!!BTW ANYONE THINKING ABOUT ATTEMPTING THIS WITH LATER MODEL F-BODY GEARS: THE INNER PINION BEARING DOES NOT INTERCHANGE!!!
90's F-Body: HM89249
70's G-body: HM89449
Pretty close but pinion will hit the carrier
