A co worker of mine is thinking of selling his 1987 442 that he recieved as part of an estate sale. The car is complete but VERY rusty. There is at least a 1/2 inch of rust scale on the center section of the rear end, floor and trunk pans are shot and there is rust in every other place that G bodies rot including the roof. The rear end is so rusty that I'm not sure it's safe to drive. This car has pushed a lot of salt in its lifetime. The redeeming qualities of the car are the interior and the euro clip are in decent condition. What would you pay? This is not a T top car.

That's pretty scary to me. I think the value is in the title and VIN tags.

I would pay what they would get in scrap and that is only because of the interior and what ever else in parts you can salvage. the rest of the car does not look safe at all nor would it be worth the $$ to fix it. I would say maybe $200-$300 tops

I really think you'd be further ahead to find a nicer car if you really want a 442. If it's just a matter of wanting to save it, I don't think it's a totally lost cause, you'll probably just replace more than you keep. That's expensive!
This one has been for sale locally for months: http://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/cto/3483698651.html If it's a local car it has little to no rust at all. I think it could probably be bought for around $4K since it's been on the market so long. Could you fix your buddy's car for less than that? Just something to think about.

Agreed. I have no intentions of saving the car. It will get parted out it if I buy it.

I presume the 8.5 is still ok? With the one year only speedo, good interior buckets, console, rear, euro nose, salvage-able 15" Olds ralleys? etc it would be hard not to be able to get $1,000 for the parts.

Nope...the 8.5 is junk. It is rusted to point where I am worried about structural failure / fluid leaks. The 15" SSIII's also have rust and are not salvagable. The interior is a 6 out of 10. Steering wheel is beef jerky, dash is cracked etc. I wish people would learn to take care of thier shyte.

My car would be a lot better off right now if the last couple owners knew how to do this.

Depending on where you live you might be able to get some good $$ from the parts that you see as trashed. If you pay under $500 for the car and can get to a car show/event for Gbody's I am positive you can make your money and time back from pulling out the parts without having to deal with shipping.

We are coming close to spring time and I have a feeling I am not alone saying "I'm itching to get working on my car in the warmer months"

The rims can be restored if you want.. The dash, console can be redone with vinyl wrap and paint. There are people that are looking to keep their car "vintage" I was in that stage for the last 8 years but since I'm changing my engine it's no longer an option.

It really comes down to do you have the time to part it out and storage to keep it and sit on it for a while?

You will always find a GBODY. I never thought I would and I have came across so many since Nov.
