how to buy a car

The under chassis doesn't look too bad. Take a close look at the right front strut tower. Are you planning on replacing the entire drive train? I'd be concerned about the rear axle. Any plans for driving it on the street and would you be able to get affordable insurance?

How is the parts availability on 240sx driveline and steering/suspension components?
suspension would get entirely redone with ISR preformance parts, and the reason why i want a 240 is because parts are dirt cheap.

I haven't kept up with imports since I first drove a 350 powered, '83 Monte Carlo about 15 years ago. I used to be into imports. I really wanted a Supra. Price per performance is one of the big reasons that imports stopped appealing to me. The prices of these old beat up imports is ridiculous. Under 2k is a good price for a 240 in that condition? Personally, I don't see it. Where's the value? A 238K mile car is gonna need a lot of work to make it look good and perform good.

It seems your heart is set on owning a 240 though and when you've got that kind of desire, nothing other than the car you want will do. If I were you, I'd see if I couldn't find one in better condition to start the project with.

As far as engine swaps are concerned, I know the SR20 is the engine that is really sought after for those cars but an LS swap would be a lot more fun and a lot easier to make power with.
Yea im wanting to make only around 250hp, which the sr would be perfect for that. the LS is a good motor but the transmission would cost as much as the whole sr kit costs.

On the rear end 240s actually have tough rear differentials if not overly worn. If you're just wanting to get into the drift thing don't count out g bodies. Should look up team bubba drift 🙂

haha ill look it up, and yea the diff can handle alot, plus the first thing im doing to it is plating and welding that diff.

I had briefly considered rwd converting my 97 Monte. When I asked around my import friends if a 240 rear would hold up to the 400 lb ft my 3800 makes they laughed and said easily lol

haha yea people are 2jz swapping the 240 and using just a stock welded diff.

UPDATE ON THE SITUATION: i was going to look at it at 11am this morning, but my mom wouldnt go with me, apparently the first person that came bought it for his asking price. i knew the deal was too good to pass.

Undercar in the industry refers to all the mechanical under the car, not the floors. Things like drive axles, differentials, suspension, hubs/bearings, exhaust (not a concern with a swap), structural pieces like engine/suspension cradles, rear susp crossmember, etc.

This is what I meant by undercar

Although, being a unitized assembly, I would look HARD at the bottom of the cars shell for signs of corrosion, stress in spot-welded assembly junctions, etc.
