Actually, the choke stove intake end should be connected to a source of clean air, like the bottom of the air cleaner, filtered side. Why? Because the heated output end must send hot air to the choke to get it hot or choke no work. There is a tiny hole in the choke housing connected internally to the carb for a vacuum source. That pulls heated air into the choke housing and across the choke coil. If you connect the choke stove to the back of the carb (to manifold vacuum) you defeat the choke operation. Using filtered air keeps that tiny hole clean and the choke working correctly. Maybe Olds used a filtered air port on the back of their carbs, I mostly know Pontiacs and they used the air cleaner.
