making horsepower

how can i make easy power in my 1984 Monte Carlo SS 305 H.O. it has an edelbrock 600 cfm carb and flowmaster exhaust

Re: making horsepower

Well you are probably gonna hear people say dont mess with it just swap in a 350. I agree. There isnt an easy/cheap way to make a 305 haul *ss. However, if you want to put a little pep in your cars step I would recommend headers and intake. Performer or Performer RPM intake. I say these two simple mods because if you ever do drop in a 350 you can swap the intake and headers over to it. Do you have a horsepower goal?

It depends on your definition of 'easy power' and how much you're looking to get ( and spend ).

I don't want to dump money in the motor because I know 305s are slow but I just want it to be a little quicker than what it is

What rear gear ratio do you have? Honestly changing rear gear ratios is a good way to change the performance of your vehicle without increasing HP. If your not interested in doing something like that, than what I listed before is a good start.

my first car had a 305 with a 4bbl Qjet carb... When I figured out how the carb worked... I did a quick trick... I "reshaped" the linkage on the secondaries so they would open more at wide open throttle...
You can also look into getting a 4bbl carb if you have a 2bbl right now, a good air filter, good spark plugs and wires
... alot of people take the little tune-up things for granted, but they make a big difference.

change gears. Car will feel faster without throwing nay money at the motor.

x2.

Put a nos kit on it spray it to death. Then junk the 305 bould a staut 350/383or 406 sbc at this point you can sell the nos kit because you will have all the power you need.
