how to make more horsepower

The SS should already have a 3.73 rear gear ratio, so there really isn't an upgrade from that. I mean you could go with 4.11 but it's not going to be much of a difference.

The easiest upgrades to a 305 would be:
-headers
-exhaust
-intake
-carburetor
-camshaft

I missed the OP SS comment.....just focused on the 305 aspect....oops!

Get a 100 shot of nitrous and that would wake up that 305..I'm with the majority here though..put a bigger motor in that MOnte...like a 383 or even a 406 and call it a day 🙂

make sure your throttle cable is snugg, you can reduce weight by taking all the smog stuff off and finding an aluminum hood and trunk lid and core support. get aluminum heads and intake, light weight rims, and if ya really wanna reduce weight, gut the interior. every lb of weight ya take off adds hp.

Actuallly weight doesn't add or reduce horsepower........I think Beermonkey is referring to lightening up the car meaning---100 lbs of weight reduction = one tenth in the 1/4 mile...... And the Original poster asked for easy H/P, Nitrous is the answer there 8)

well yeah, for hp to weight, every 10 lbs adds like 1 hp. so its like adding free hp.

Adding or subtracting weight doesnt add or subtract hp or free it up. An engine produces a certain amount of hp whether the vehicle it is in weighs 2k lbs or 10k lbs. I see what your saying by reducing weight will improve performance.

yeaa weight doesnt "add hp" it just makes the car faster bec of the power to weight ratio. the 84 monte came with 3.42's not 3.73's but the previous owner said that he put 3.73's in it so its not a decent pull
