I have my car disassembled for paint so I cant drive it and will need to put it on a tow dolly to take to the paint shop. Since its a rear wheel drive car I was told that I need to drop the drive shaft. My question is how do I do that? Do I need to have the car in neutral, or park when I remove the driveshaft?? All help will be apreciated. Thanks.

Jack the rear of the car up with car in nuetral so you can spin driveshaft to get to bolts. Remove the 4 bolts with a 7/16 or 11mm socket or wrench your preference. You might need a prybar to pop universal joint free. Make sure you have a butt plug for trans or you will poor trans fluid out. Or simply load car on tow dolly in reverse and lock the wheel strait.

Loosen the 4 bolts at the rear of the driveshaft , you will have to remove at least 2 of the bolts then slide the driveshaft towards the transmission. Sometimes this takes persuation with a BFH if your Ujoints are rusty. Before dropping the shaft out wrap the U joint with some tape to keep the caps from coming off and scattering the little needle bearings all over. After pulling the driveshaft out of the transmission put a tailshaft plug in to keep the ATF in place. A plastic baggie zip tied in place also works.
You can leave it in park and block the wheels unless you already have it strapped down to the dolly.
