I was digging in storage today guess what I found in old tool trays ?... it was so good I had to post this.. OK I seen the two halfs of a zink lag bolts casting you know the kind you use that tighten up in concrete when the matching lag bolt is screwed into the alloy shell halves the beauty
of useing this is the alloy castings expand gripping the chevy pilot bearing and the lag bolt being long enough and threaded to pull weight on a bolt but wen used thus way inserted in the pilot bearing and with the bolt bottoming pulls the bronze pilot bearing as good as a pilot bearing tool and you can use it over once is never enough toss it in you bottom tool box tray it will be ther when you need it "... these come in different sizes so you have to pick the one that's 5/8 an inch (or 1/2") when the castings are placed together before the tightening (lag) bolt expanding effect ect you can saw the zink alloy off some if you have a shorter lag bolt instead of a longer lag bolt it's possible you have some big lag bolts left over from some hardware you inherited from your flea market days ..
That is cool as can be! EZPZ. While roaming around my friend's shop I came across an old set of blind hole pullers. It was a cheesy Fleabay set, but worked. He bought it once for a job and it got tossed into the parts/tools closet. He said take it and enjoy it, so I did. It looks like this>>>>
The bread or grease thing work but you Must be able to find a rod to fit tightly in the bearing hole. Also swinging a hammer in that area is easy on a hoist but when using the proper tool. It comes out with control.
