Yeah, i might have to look into a cross member for strenght, i took a look at the one under there and it doesnt look to be the most rigid.

But i have no worries on exhaust clearance, Im just going to have turn down on the collectors.

But thats good to know about the drive shaft. Im really pieceing this car together one thing at a time. My engine and transmission are all complete. i plan on doing the swap in the begining of the year.

Welcome!! Nice car!It should be a fun ride with a 383 in it. It's great to see another third generation Monte owner. We gota stick together brother.

Haha definitly! I dont have a digital cammera but when i get my photos developed i will post progress on the car.

I know it is covered on the site as i have already read all the threads on the engine swap, but i have one question. It has the 229 with a 200 transmission. when i drop my 383 with a TH350 in, will i need a new cross member? and will the drive shaft have to be shortened?

First off - welcome!!

Yes you will need a new x-member. There's a seller on ebay who sells them or lookup a guy named Iceman on maliburacing. He sells lightweight ones for the th350. You can use your existing driveshaft, like said.

As for your Monte - I know that thing is clean, looks on the steering wheel, the silver plasic is not even cracked!!! and those bumper strips are MINT! Nice score. I had an 80 with that exact interior for my first car when I was 16.

Welcome to another 3rd gen Monte member!!

Would this be the cross memeber you are talking about? If not, does it look like this one would work? i will get under there and do some measuring tomorrow.

Well my motor for this is done, until its time for it to go in. i plan on putting it in in january.

its a 383 wiht dart pro1 heads, 2.08, 1.60 valves. 230 cc intake and 80 cc exhaust. It has forged Eagle internals with Forged Kieth black pistons. should be around 11.5 compression. Comp Cams 306/306 duration with .555/.555 lift flat tappet. ported victor jr. intake, and a holley 750 double pumper. It should be a fun car!!

That is one sweet looking motor. It is very close to my build except I have 2.05 valves and 215 heads and I have hyper pistons and you have forged. I'm also running 10.75 to 1 and you are running higher compression. You should be around 500hp+. It should be one fast ride. If you run her at the track I would love to know what kind of et she runs. That should give me some sort of Idea what mine should run. Keep up the good work. You got good taste in engine parts.

I can't remember the brand because I got it off Ebay. I actually have 2 fans, 1- 16" that you see that is on the passenger side of the rear of radiator pulling air and I have 1-14" that is pushing air on the driver side of the front of the radiator. I haven't had it on the road yet. I still have a lot of interior and wiring to do yet but I know the setup will work fine because that is how I set up my 1970 Nova I use to have with a 454 BB in it. It ran fine and BB's are notorious for running warm. This is the first time I have ever used a electric water pump so If I have problems that is what it would be. The radiator should cool just fine it is new and as big as I could get.

Nice ride! Reminds me of the 79' I had in high school. We actually have had a few in the family. 1973,1979,1985ss,1987ss bubble back, and the one I have now 1988ss.
