ok so i have just picked up a hurst promatic ratchet shifter for a auto trans. right now stock it has a column shift and i want to swap over to floor shifter cuz it keeps poping out of gear cuz the column wont lock in place :blam: .and i was just wanting some tips on how to do it

im not sure but i know yer not too far from cutlassjesse and limey. they both live up there, maybe they can help/

i went from my column shift to a b&m quicksilver in my malibu wagon it was fairly easy first you have to remove the stock bracket the connects to the transmission wich allows the column shift to work remove the cable than to remove the actuall column shift you can just pop out the pin with a punch or any thing that fits one good hit with a hammer it should fly out and you can take off the selector than after all that find your place of choice to install ur shifter than drill your holes and bolt it down than drill a big enough hole in a good angle to slide the new cable through it will go through and loop back towards your rearend connect your new cable bracket to transmission ( its on the side of the pan) that came with your shifter than connect your cable to the bracket adjust it right for me is easeist if i by hand slide under transmission and put it in lowest gear and do same with your new shifter and connect it there tighten bolts and there you go and cover how ever you like console etc

i got the shifter form a guy that wanted me to swap out the hrust shifter to a b&m shifter in his s10 so im not sure if i have eveything to it yet er not but ima try to throw it in tomorrow and see how it goes..i was also worndering will i have any probs with turning the key with the stock column shifter not hooked up? i kew a guy that had a abody cutty that he did this swap to and evey now in then he had to sit and **** with the column to get the key to turn to start the car is that something i have to worry about out did he just not do something right?

Hey No offence but aren't you a bit curious why your shifter keeps poping out of gear? I mean ya floor shifts are great but I think you need to look into your engine mounts and transmission mount see if there broken.

i did this to my cutlass. only every once and a while i have to turn the column cause the column shifter would wiggle out of park. this is only a prob when trying to remove the key. like any automatic the shift lever has to be in park to remove the key
