I was reading this article: http://time.com/5530149/trump-2019-physician-report-obese

Which got me thinking about my BMI (knowing that it is a stupid measure of health)... so I pumped my details into the calculator:

https://www.cdc.gov/healthyweight/assessing/bmi/adult_bmi/english_bmi_calculator/bmi_calculator.html

I stand at a mighty 5'-11" and last Summer I was 176lbs which gave me a BMI of 24.5... a few more Doritos and my kids were going to have to roll me around. Thankfully, I am back down to 171lbs.

It depends a lot on your build. I am 5 ft 11.5" tall, if I weighed 171 pounds I would be a skeleton. I shouldn't weigh my current 235 pounds either but most wouldn't consider me fat. My wife is an extremely heavy build, she is still at the obese weight despite being skin and bones at 5 ft 7"ish and 150 pounds, size 9 is as small as she can get. Supposedly I should weigh between 135 pounds, yeah right and 181 pounds. I could weigh 181 if I ate perfectly and didn't do any weight training. My Dad was 5 ft 9 and weighed 155 pounds for most of his adult life. He was built like a lightweight boxer. When he was recovering from his third bout of cancer he weighed 135 pounds and was skin and bones. Both of my grandparents were thin people all there lives on Dad's side. I am betting they were at the high end of the BMI index.

Looking at that my Grandma was on the low side for 5'2" and my Grandfather at 6'2" would have been on the higher side.

I'm 6'2" and 250 lbs and I've been that height and weight for as long as I can remember. According to that website I should weight between 144 and 194 lbs. If I was 194 lbs I would look like an Ethiopian.

Please, I'm 5'10" and was a 200lbs 18 y.o. in basic training.

I was told I was overweight, until I scored the highest possible PT score (was immediately issued a waver)

Those charts are only for "average" people LOL..............I'm a bit more portly MANY years later @ 225 😕

I'm just a fat-*ss now but have always been solid and come from solid stock. I'm 5-10 and ran 180-190 from 17 to 24. People always assumed I was gym rat but I was far from it. At 24 I was in a pretty bad car accident the limited my activity for a few years and depending on how my back and neck are, my weight goes up and down.
At my last physical my doctor told me he'd like to see me at 170. I haven't weighed 170 since 7th grade and would have to lose every bit of muscle mass I have left in the process. Also, I just really like food.

171 lbs from 176, so 5 lbs? Geez, I've taken sh*ts that weighed 5 lbs... What exactly are you worried about?

Nothing at all. I just thought it was funny that people subjectively apply the BMI measure to things without considering all the factors related to individual physiology and health.

According to this drawing by my oldest I am doing okay... but, should probably stop skipping leg day.
