I Back with a Leak

I'm going to recommend like was said earlier. Put silicone on the seal when you press it in the housing. I learned that from working at the machine shop. We put all the timing cover seals in with silicone. Over time any surface that sees oil will drip. Pinion splines, press in seals, We even put silicone on the crankshaft bolts to prevent oil coming down the keyway in the balancer.

Took out the old bearing and installed the new one piece (bearing/seal). It would only go in 1/2 way. Bearing/Seal Installer used with sledge hammer. Should have stopped early on! Decided to pull it out, it broke apart and the remainder will not cone out. It is GM Part # RP5707 , it doesn't fit. Started to grind it ou but my die grinder needs new cutter I'll get tomorrow. What is left of the outer bearing cases shold come out in pieces.

Jinkies, that stinks!

So.....the repair bearing you got is designed to stick out, it moves the bearing and seal out further closer to the axle flange to move the seal and bearing to a non worn portion of the axle...so most likely if it stopped moving, it was in the whole way

Yes, I know that it is suppose to stick out but it would not go in as far as it should have. The axle would not go in far enough to be able to insert the C Clip.

I'd replace the axle shaft before I'd buy one of those repair bearings with the seal. It's likely that there is a groove worn into the shaft from the seal preventing a proper seal, or the shaft could be pitted from corrosion. I installed my seals with grey rtv on the outside of the seal and installed it flush with the axle tube. I also greased the seal lips with grease to prevent the rubber from getting chewed up from being dry.

New bearing and seal installed with RTV on the seal to tube area. Got to get oil to fill and then take it for a ride. Not confident that this will work. Only difference with the other multiple tries is new bearing. Is anyone using the Strange Engineering S60 (Dana) rear. Its a bolt in according to Strange and I can use my 2002 Camaro Disk Brake setup. Stock LC/UP Control Arms are a direct fit too.
