Hi new to this forum.Well I've always wanted a malibu or some other G-body platform. So I came across a good deal I swapped a $50 toyota for a 1980 Lemans 2dr no drive train of course.Well since aquiring the car this year I've built quite a good straight liner I think.Ecept for my converter issuses and those land speed record rear gears hahaha.Well I hope this is going to be the place for me.Cause I still like my ricers for the fuel mileage cause this dang car suck at fuel mileage litteraly like 8to 9 mpg
Uh how about welcome from another forum noob. (but long time g-body junkie) You probably already know this but the cheapiest easiest solution for the air plane gears is to junk yard boogie a whole rear drum to drum out of a MCSS. 3.42s in the first year or so 3.73s in the later. It would not be the best solution if you plan to go mid 12s & faster especially if you plan to put slicks on her but its cheap easy and out there with some computerized jy searches. Might even come with a posi. Last I bought new posi clutches were $90. The 7.5 3.73 rear I bought was $200 & came with the thicker MCSS sway bar.
For the mileage again depending on how fast you need to go a healthy used 200-4r can be found for reasonable. A little research is involved with regards to making the lock up function of the converter work as factory ie without a manual switch or in addition to a manual switch. I had to get a GM vacuum switch which was $34. Get the converter with the transmission & you solved that at the same time. If you are going to put any power in front of it though invest in a GOOD shift such as the one CKPerformance makes (think I paid $90) & a large cheap transmission cooler. Maybe in addition a well set up Q-jet should also be good for an additional at least 1 mpg.
I saw on another post that you have experience with the big Cad & other motor swaps. Yea we need motor heads around here not just blingers. I also like reading about those who can think outside the box including the fact that a sbc is not the only solution to every swap possibility.
well welcome vern i'm new on this forum but have been on alot of import forums think outside the box hmm I have this 460 out of my dads old merc with cj heads let's see I could fab the mounts tack up a set of fenderwell headers or wait twin turbo 460 in my pontiac hell yeah blue oval fans would go nuts that is of course a joke I haven't completely lost my mind yet but I almost put that big ole ford in my c10 short box before I found another motor so the monte ss had posi unit on some and deeper gears there is one in the u-pullit yard here but I looked at the car and it's gonna take some heavy cutting to get it out but that won't be too hard though my dads got a 21"hand held concret saw thanks for the info
