im on summit racing looking at shift kits & torque converters and i wondering can someone give me pointers on picking a torque converter & shift kit for my car ? im already going to be upgrading the rear end gears to 3.42's..

Transgo seems to be the most popular shift kit around. As for the torque converter, make sure you match it with your camshafts operating range. I'm currently running a Dacco converter. The whole setup shifted very nicely without any issues for the mile I took it out for lol.

If you don't have a wildly rebuilt 307 you don't need a converter. A stockish 307 with only a three speed transmission won't like a 3.42 very well either. A 3.08 would be a better gear choice for the olds 307 & a 3 speed.307's power band is from idle to maybe 4,000 & it likes to pull not rev so the 3.42 would have it past its power band at freeway speeds.

Just get a cheap factory D5 converter from a Monte SS, 442, or GN. Your engine just doesn't really need much converter.
