I love Impala SS's, but...

I still think it's funny to find the "high performance" cars of the late '80's & '90's that have been horded & stored for times like now to try to sell for muscle car era prices. So where are the early Firebird Fire Hawks & Turbo Trans Am pace cars? Those have to be worth six figures, right?

A salesman at work bought a fully loaded 2002 Z28 with t-tops,chrome rims etc. strictly as an investment since GM was discontinuing the Camaro and then he tried to sell it before the 2010 Camaro's came out and couldn't get what he paid for it so he still has it to this day.

Those Camaro's have zero value. The Trans Am's on the other hand still sell for decent money.

yes, they may handle fairly crappy, but the technology that we're used to wasn't really there for huge land barges (or cost effective for corporate bean counters)... remember, our beloved G-bodies were't great handlers either, enen the hurst's/442's/GN's. nowadays, we have aftermarket stuff to correct all that , and there is support for all those big bodiy cars. Having had 2 of the police pakage cars (the 92 was a bit of a dog with the TBI) they handled pretty good IMO... with the 95 I had, lower profile tires and SS wheels, and later a little stickier tires may have made it look a little goofy, but I could throw it into a curve at higher speeds without fear.

Hard to believe that car has been squirreled away with 46 lousy miles. That was the last year of the Impala SS, I believe. I remember thinking they finally got it right with the shift on the floor and bucket seats. I loved that car back in the day, especially in maroon with those polished aluminum wheels. I owned a 2004 Impala, base model, 3.4 ltr, same color with the same style wheels and liked it just fine. Traded it at ten years old for our current 2014 Impala 2LT (Red Rock Metallic w/ black leather interior) that is leaps and bounds better than the 2004 and goes like stink with the 3.6ltr 305 hp V6. Has a hard time keeping up with my BIL's Telsla Model S though. That thing is like speeding in a bank vault, very quick with no noise.

The asking price for the SS is the starting point, pretty high to me, but the way things go these days with Barrett Jackson setting the standards, nothing surprises me. Somebody will come in with a close enough offer and take it home.

this was a confirmed police unit out of morehead city nc, and found the "buisness" card of the officer that it was assigned to, along with a loaded M-16 20 round magazine. car never had a light bar or cage installed, and was still the factory purple pearl metallic.... god I miss that car!
