Since you have a sbc and needed to pull the distributor, it may be one tooth off. Don't have that problem with an Olds 😀.
 
The main thing here, is to not panic 8)

What are all the heater hoses and valves :?: That looks ridiculous. Just a straight piece of heater hose running from the water to the heater core and from the manifold to the heater core is just fine :idea:

Edelbrock carburetors typically run right out of the box (they might need some fine tuning, but they run) You most likely have an ignition problem. As stated previously, check all you plug wires and distributor wires. You do need an HEI distributor, if you haven't already got one in there.

Since you're using that carb, I'm assuming emissions is a non issue. If that's the case, I'd personally eliminate all the air injection and smog pump. You can retain the stock exhaust manifolds and plug the air tube holes with brass or steel plugs from a hardware store. It would help sort out that rat's nest a little anyway.

Like everyone else said, don't panic. It's not as difficult as you're making it out to be.
 
Just looks like a big mess to me i cant make heads or tails of it
