Upgraded to polyurethane upper control arm bushings on my 1980 GP, NY's roads aren't kind so I broke the mount one day. A mechanic re welded it but I am skeptical, I want to put the car back on the road but first want to go back to good ol' rubber. Should i throw the car out?

The bushing material didn't kill it, rust did. It all depends on how bad the frame is as to weather or not it is safe to use. You could get a rust free frame and swap it all over if the rest of the car is good and the frame is bad, or you could probably get another car from a southern state and use yours for parts.

If it broke because of rust then I don't think it would have been welded back in place...another member in here who builds race cars out of G bodies isn't impressed with the welds that GM factory did so he redoes every weld on the frame....it could be that the weld broke and it may be a stronger weld than what you had before

never thought about rust

I inspected that area yesterday and while there is surface rust there are no areas where the frame is like completely rusted thru, i.e no holes. I think I am still going back to rubber because the whole thing is way to "stiff", my other problem being is I am spoiled by the ride of my 95 caprice wagon I think lol.

that sounds a little wierd to me. my freinds and i put hydraulics on his 84 gp that was in my backyard and the first time or second time it was lifted in the rear it ripped the left upper control arm right off the pumpkin but it only broke the control arm . another set was at the hydro shop getting extended and boxed in .
