Need ID on this unit please:

Auburn, Eaton, or ???

Looks to be a Borg Warner design cone clutch unit. This is the design which was sold to Auburn Gear in the late 70's and is still made today.
Had one of these in a 79 Malibu Classic. Check the preload plates closely for stress cracks, the unit in my 'Bu fractured sent the side pinion gears and springs out the rear cover.

an eaton has keyways for the tabs on the clutch disks, there isn't any keyway visible on your posi

This is the exploded view from the 1979 overhaul manual.

The ring gear end should look have a bolt pattern like this.

From your picture you can see the grove of the cone below the side gear.
Again not a bad unit but... it's not rebuildable, basically a early model Auburn.
