So get this guys, me, my mom and my little sister decided to go on a little vacation this week to the soaring eagle resort in Mount Pleasant, so we took a little road trip. Very cool place, the waterpark was pretty sweet, would definitely go there again. But anyways, now to the main story. On the way back, we stopped in bridgeport to eat at the cracker barrel, and idk if you guys have ever been there but its an old country style restaurant with a gift shop in it. So we get done eating, and my mom hands me the keys and says alright, im gonna shop for a little bit, you kids can sit in the car. So we go out there, and im sitting in the drivers seat, car running, bored. Then i remembered the car was having problems with the stupid push button 4wd lights not staying on, so i was trying to see if i could get them to work. So without thinking, i put it in neutral, shifted to 4 low. :blam: The light went on then out again after a second. So i hit 2hi again, noticed it wasnt doing sh*t. GREAT! Now im stuck in 4 low, 50 miles from home. I pulled the car forward and back, went around the parking lot, the steering wheel jerking at every turn. Hit it again, and this time the lights actually decided to work. Said it was in 4 low, so i was like oh alright now your going to work. Hit 2hi, it blinked a few times then went back to 4. ****!! Now were stranded. I did everything i could to try and get it to work. I banged on the transfer case motor thinking it was stuck, nothing. Unplugged the negative cable, nothing. I even tried removing the TCCM (transfer case control module) to reset it, still stuck in 4. So I tried another thing. I pulled the 4wd switch out of the dash and was pulling it apart to see if there was any corrosion but that wasnt the case. Then after i put it back in the lights stopped working, the relay stopped clicking in the TCCM, no power. I figured we were screwed for the night, so after all the screaming back and forth between me and my mom, we booked a one night stay at the baymont hotel at 80 bucks (ripoff) which luckily was right next to the restaurant. I got to thinking what the hell it could be, and started checking the obvious fuses. I looked in the fuse box in the dashboard and only found one fuse that could be related, (4x4 fuse) pulled it and it was fine, even switched it with another, nothing. Still no power. So i used the hotel computer, hopped on blazer forums - great forum btw, im farley463 on there - and looked up the problem. Apparently it said there are multiple fuses related to the system (CRANK, ILLUM, ATC, etc) and i was gonna check it in the morning but my mom had called a shop to check it out and was in a rush to get there so i didnt have the chance to check em. So we drive down there going 15mph because for some reason it wouldnt shift past 2nd gear. Thats odd. We finally get to the shop about two miles down the road and these so called "ase certified" techs look at it. They take it for a test drive, guy comes back and says "yeah, the trans is shot, its gonna be $1500 bucks to fix it." Im pretty knowledgeable when it comes to this sh*t so immediately a red flag goes off in my head. I said "how the hell can the trans be bad, it was working fine last night? Is it still in 4wd?" Tech says "oh its not in 4wd theres no engagement to the front wheels blah blah blah." I said yeah well did you check to see if maybe the hubs are unlocked but the driveshaft is still turning? Meaning that the transfer case is still engaged?" He said "nope, the trans just wont upshift and you cant go past 35mph." So im like alright well were not gonna do anything like that today. So my moms freaking out crying about her car and such and the lady at the front desk says we can tow it home for you if you want. After we loaded it up on the flatbed, on the way home i got to thinking about those fuses again, so after the guy dropped the car down, i started it up, held the brakes to the floor and hit the gas pedal. Got out and ALL 4 TIRES had marks in the snow from spinning, so the tech was lying to me about that! Mother****er!! I checked the fusebox, pulled out the ATC fuse and sure enough the damn thing was blown! Put in a spare and sure enough, the lights are back on in the dash, its back in 2hi, and everything is working normal. So these *ssh*les just ripped us off for 300 bucks to tow us home and they were gonna charge us 1500 bucks to do a ****ing trans that was working just great! Now im sitting home thinking about whether or not i should waste my time and call this piece of sh*t up and demand our money back. Isnt that just bullshit? What do you guys think i should do? Im trying to convince my mom to take them to small claims court to see if they could do anything. Im only 17 so i cant sue them myself but i really feel like going back up to bridgeport and kicking some *ss!! Whos with me? Lol. These are the kinds of scumbags that give mechanics a bad name, and I think they should be brought to justice...

Nothing you can do...They gave a bs analysis and requested a tow. You & your mom selected the 300 option. Most I would do is leave as many bad reviews & tell them of their error.

Yeah, you're out the $300, but you aren't the first guy who got towed home only to fix it 5 minutes later. Been there, done that, hysterical female and all. Just be glad she was not out there alone, or you WOULD be screaming bloody murder when the $1500 trans job didn't fix it.

If it happens again 2 10mm bolts for encoder motor and 9/16" wrench to turn the shaft. Fully clockwise is 2 high, 4 high in middle and 4 low all the way counter clockwise.

I'm not blaming or defending anyone here, but I don't think you solved all the problems by replacing a fuse. It blew for a reason. There's still an issue somewhere. As far as the tow is concerned; you were the one who started screwing with stuff 50 miles from home. The mechanic and the tow truck driver didn't break your car. The most anyone owes you is maybe a refund on the diagnostic portion of the bill. Have your mom make a POLITE phone call and plead her case. They might refund the money but don't be surprised if they don't. You don't have a legal case here. If you had approved the transmission repair and it didn't fix the problem it'd be a different story.

Your mom falls for it and they do nothing to the trans and take the cash and put it back in 2 high for her and she is on her way...

I may be wrong here ... but the transmission is designed to not shift higher than 2nd gear wHile in 4Lo, right :?:

Thats actually what i was going to do but i had shitty cheap tools that werent sized right so they were either too loose or didnt fit. I was gonna take the motor off and manually do it but if it happens again im gonna say fuggit and try to convert it to manual floor shift. I hate that push button bs.

I see what your saying man. Yeah that was really stupid of me to do and im really kicking myself in the *ss for it. It just pisses me off that some people arent knowledgeable enough to see through the corruption of these shops and i hate hearing about ripoff stories. Anyways the reason the fuse blew i believe is because when i pulled the 4wd switch out i disconnected and reconnected the wires with the car still running, and after i plugged it back in is when it stopped working. So idk i hope it works now but yeah like i said i think if it starts having problems again im just gonna figure out how to run mechanical linkage.

Im not exactly sure. I know some do and some dont but i imagine it would go 2nd only because any faster and your spinning parts way too fast.
