hi everybody im glad that im part of a site with fellow G-body lovers. i have a 85 Cutlass Supreme Brougham that i need help with. My 1st question is what parts do i need to change the ugly v6 that's in it to a 307 or 350. I have a universal transmission and i just need to know step by step how to take my v6 out and put in a powerful v8. so please feel free to comment and help i sure would appreciate it. Thanks again

first off u should put a 350 in it eater a Pontiac or Chevy 350, u gota change the motor mounts from there but iam doin the same sway iam doin a 307 to a 350 lol, first disconnect the wiring harness but label every thing that go's to what and where and take picks of the engine before and after, drain all the fluids from the motor and disconnect the trans and exhaust, there on there good from rust, disconnect the drive shaft and pull that out but make sure to have a drain pan underneath the trans when doin this part, alot of fluid, now that thats all disconnected remove the radiator shroud fan and anything that looks like itll get in the way from the front and put cloths or soft things on the painted parts of the car(dont want to scratch the paint in the process), motor mounts eather have to b torched off or u can unbolt them, but make sure the car is on a flat surface when pulling and e brake is on at all time or else the car will roll but thats as good as i can explain but good luck and take picks of the build down/up its fun to see the transformation

ok heres my problem i had a mechanic tell me i had a uni-year transmission what is that all about

Chances are you have a 200-4R transmission, which features a universal-bellhousing with a dual-bolt pattern.
It will accept both Chevrolet motors, and Buick-Olds-Pontiac (BOP) motors.
Most other transmissions only accept one pattern, not both.

This makes motor swaps between brands easier, since you don't have to replace the entire transmission to accept a different motor.

You are probably looking for an engine, start checking craigslist or old car trader magazines. I got a nice deal out of a old trader Magazine in North Carolina. Early model olds 350's are the best.

so since i have the uni year transmission does it have the overdrive gear because i really have now way of telling because my gauge cluster only has D-2-1

its most definitely all original and my transmission is the universal one the 200r

sounds like it maybe a uni-bell th350 .... those do exist too. I was surprised when the th350 came out of the 81 that it was dual pattern. Kinda wished I held onto and not just given it to the guy that helped do the physical swapping of drivetrain. Also a 200-4r doesn't guarantee B-O-P + Chevy ... seen one come out of an S series that was definately Chevy only. His PRNDL would be for a 3 speed. No factory 200-4r would lack the OD on the PRNDL. So either it's a 3 speed or someone has swapped the trans and not changed the gear indicator (which isn't beyond reason either ... I still have the 3 speed shifter in my car)
