I first registered, then posted back in 2017 when i aquired a 1980 malibu 2dr coupe, and came to find out it used to belong to another resident here by the name of "Pat McKinney", if he sees this posting, im sure he will remember.

Sadly, i no longer have the car as i had to give it up after owning it for only 45days for financial reasons, i was in between jobs when i bought the car, but ready to start one soon after as a driver, but had to decline so i could help take care of my injured mother since my father past away years earlier, easy come, easy go i suppose, picked it up for $1500, less motor(383), but the last owner was nice enough to leave me the ruined 700r4 for not adjusting the TV cable correctly.

I was on the lookout for another 78-80 malibu 2dr coupe, and i did come accross one in Elmendorf Tx, i still live in san antonio, the gentleman wanted $2500 for his 1980 malibu 2dr coupe, original maroon color, factory 4speed(rare), body was straight, in good shape and solid, needed a new dashboard, missing the headliner, missing the back window, missing both back tail light housings, missing both 1/4 panel back seat intereor pieces, not sure what engine size(305 or 350), headers, aluminum aftermarket intake, aluminum 3core radiator and a holley carb.

He said he got it from a friend whos mother had pasted away, so the name on the title was somewhat iffy, the new owner hadnt had a chance to get the title in his name, i didnt want to deal with it, so i walked away from it, a week later, he finally got the title(bonded) in his name and decided to keep it, he mentioned about putting in a roll cage in it, probably making a racecar with it or something. When he first contacted me, he texted me a few pictures, of course i went to go see the car in person, but since i walked away, i deleted the pics off my phone and never took any pictures in person.

Im still on the lQQkout for a 78-80 only malibu 2dr coupe, automatic, clean and in good shape, running and be as complete as possible, my overall plans are, 383cid/th350 and 3.42 gears w/posi, upgraded polyeurothane suspension all around, boxed 4link suspension in the rear, i'll leave all the ac/heat components in place, unless its a heater only car, which is fine too, less clutter in the engine bay, keep the intereor stock and for the wheels, 15x7 for the front and 15x8 for the rear corvette rallys painted black with only the chrome moon caps in the center, give it the sleeper look, but the rumble from the flow master dual exhaust system just might give it away, and last, but not least, NO LS SWAP or any type of fuel injection, the only thing i want electronic in the car is the ignition system(HEI/MSD) oh, and AFR meter(s) tapped into one, or both the headers so i can tune the holley carb correctly.

Thanks once again for reading and any help locating a good candidate within the san antonio area, or not too far out would be greatly appreciated.

No love for the 81 coupes? They're practically the same car as the 80

Figure the 81 and up use a feedback carb, probably a computer is involved somewhere, i dont want to have to tear into the wiring to remove it and rewire.

I wouldn't worry about that. You just use the wires you want and tie the rest out of the way. With an engine swap on the horizon it doesn't really make any extra work on your end. Pull the short ecm harness out of the firewall and stick a body plug in its place.
