DAMN!!!... I can buy a new 700r4 for that. Why even rebuild if Im gonna pay $800-$1200 anyway? I got into doing my own work b/c I was tired of gettin over charged by every mechanic trying to get over. But in this situation... I dont know how to rebuild a transmission. So I will have to pay for it. I hope I can find a better deal than that!

You cant buy a new 700r4,havent been able to for prob 10 years, they are all rebuilds....

700r4 isnt the best choice for a performance trans either. If you have someone build it,at least youll know what parts are in it,not just taking Joe Blows word that "its bulletproof"

Youll pay every bit of $1000 around here for a 700r4 bench job,and thats stock rebuild.

Wanna make a mistake?Get a 700r4.Youll be saying "damn,I shouldve listened to that guy" after you drop that transmission for the 5th time and its still not right.

If you want an od trans that is gonna last behind a hot small block, build it yourself or be prepared to spend $2000-$3000

Why would u need to weld to install a th400???

Depending on where the mount bolts up, he might need to make a bracket on the crossmember to bolt up the larger transmission. It's just extra headache, why not get something you know would bolt right in place? (...and also use the original driveshaft to save $)

Uhhh,no....

Alright... Im taking a vote

200 R4?
350 TH?
400 TH?
700 R4?

Just remember***
I want a good transmission that can handle occasional burn outs.
I dont need a suped up racer transmission.
And Im on a budget ($600-$800) Unless Im convinced to spend more

Getting the right transmission is one of the most important parts of a good overhaul so Im really looking for the best advice.

Im going with the 700R4... From what Ive learned, jumping this hurtle, I believe it is the best choice. Anyway, thanks for everyone's comments & advice (Even the Stang driver... I keed I keed) 8)

HRPartsNStuff carries a th400 to stock 2004r mount....and a th350 and 2004r both use the same xmember.

If you are paying over $250 for a bench rebuild on a 350/400,you are paying to much!

youre both wrong. th350 and 200r4 use seperate crossmembers but use the same driveshaft. no bracket needed for a th400, it mounts perfectly to the 200r4 crossmember but will need a shorter driveshaft. if the car didnt come out with the 200r4, you will also need the frame extension for the drivers side.
