I wasn't able to make it this pass Friday. But I'll go next week. I'll let you everyone know if it's still going on.

I talked to our local Chevy dealership body shop about a possibility of a repaint on my MCSS. They said they wouldnt touch it. Take it to a resto shop. They wont repaint older rides. Car is straight. No rust anywhere.

Paint completes are a production killer for collision shops. Vehicles that will need to have all the unstable decades-old outdated/compromised existing finish removed are even moreso.

Typically, nobody wants to pay what it would take to disrupt the normal work processes of a collision shop.

Honestly, until you work in the business, it's hard to understand, but once you're in it, you begin to see why.

I'm in Fort Lauderdale and I've had two experiences with shops down here -- 1 good, 1 bad. Both involved my daily driver mustang following accidents.

The Bad -- Abernathy's Paint and Body. I hydroplaned on 95 and went into the center median hard with the front driverside, hard enough it bent the frame. The insurance bill was over $11,000 and more than 50% of the car had to be repainted. That paint is now dull, weathered and flaking off despite the repair happening in 2014. Factory paint from 2008 that's left is in better condition. This place also tried to collect for repairs and parts they didn't actually purchase. Point in case, my car has factory stripes and they tried giving it back to me with the old stripes on it despite the insurance check amount providing for new stripes.

The Good -- Peerless Auto Boy. Another driver hit my passenger side right where the door meets the quarter. Really punched the metal of the quarter in right at the door line. Body man cut the quarter panel completely off and replaced over objection by the insurance company, who just wanted to authorize the metal pulled and filled. Lines are perfect and paint remains in good condition since the 2011 repair. Had this place not been declined by the insurance company, I would have gone for the hydroplane repair. I have to think his objections and pushing for the correct repair, over the cheaper repair may be got him listed by the insurance company. Also when I was there the body shop had a 70 Cuda completely stripped down and ready to paint.

Hope this helps.
