Indents/dimples on trans tunnel

I've done some digging and come up empty so far- I'm gonna mount my universal Hurst shifter to the tunnel, and I'm looking for guidance on how to measure for the shifter cable hole.
I see 3 "dimples", if you will, in a row on the tunnel just forward of where the seats are. Is or can one of these be used for the passage of the shifter cable? If not, what is the reference point for mounting the shifter and running the cable through correctly?
I want to measure three times, cut once ...do it right. Thanks guys!
 
I've had a Hurst V-matic shifter in my car previously (went back to a stock shifter). The indents(or dimples) would normally be positioned for the factory shift cable, etc.. What I would do first, is find the ideal shifter mounting position. Make sure the lever doesn't hit the dash in park , and find a comfortable mounting position in relation to your reach.
. If there's no existing stock shift mounting bracket on the tunnel, you might have to make a spacer to be used under the rear shifter mounting tabs.I used a piece (or pieces) of 1x1 steel tubing
Does your car have a factory floor shifter in it currently?
Once the shifter is in a position that you feel is comfortable and functional, then you could figure out where to drill a hole for the shift cable.
When I went back to a stock shifter, I had to weld up the hole that was drilled for the aftermarket shifter. I then had to drill a hole in a different position.

My shifter may be different than yours as far as mounting is concerned. I'll try to look back in my paperwork to see if I still have any of the old mounting directions.

There's a column shift in it now, or actually no shifter, linkage-wise. I will definitely mock it up where it feels most comfortable, and check if I need any bracketing. Thanks, I will keep you posted.
 
I should have been clearer...I went back to a stock floor shift. The old column shifter has been long gone after changing over to a floor shift column.

You should be happy that you have "little stuff to do". 🙂
