Just wondering who you guys have your insurance throught cus i wanted to get mine throught someone like hagerty but they told me they dont consider a grand prix a classic unless its a 1986 areocoupe, and same with the other models only if its the ss,gn, or 442 models not base models ,but i want a good set price if anything happens to the car was going for 5,000 thats about what i have into it , and i need a extra rider added to my insurance to make this happen with my insurance ,and everyone i know that uses hagerty set there own price on what the car is worth np,and one guy tokd me his buddya car was set at 30,000 they tookod care and didnt haggle with him when it couldnt be repaired.

That’s the longest sentence ever. ;-)

You could always have your car appraised and insured for that vaule. I nice G-Body that’s in mint shape should appraise for 10K.

Biggest problem with most specialty companies is the limitations they put on the policy.......mileage restrictions, cannot be used as a daily driver or to run errands (must have other vehicle(s) with normal insurance), usually an minimum age (normally you must be at least 25 years old) etc.

I have read where State Farm will cover for an agreed value without the restrictions, so you might want to check there.

For grins, I looked up an 86 GP on the NADA site and it lists a range of $3000 (low retail) to $6400 (High retail).

Depending on the REAL condition of your car I would document the condition (or have it appraised) and slap liability and comprehensive insurance (that will cover the car for everything except an accident you cause) and drive it.

x2....my insurance company (USAA) requires the mileage restrictions, appraisal, and it has to be garaged.....I just put it in the garage, have full coverage on it, and drive. Granted right now, I don't have a lot in it, but if I ever do go crazy with it, it will be appraised.

Punctuations are for p*ssy's....

Here in VA...if you dont plan to use the car as a DD (5k miles or less) you can insure it as an antique and will not require inspection every year and the policy is less expensive for full coverage...

I got quoted 12 bucks a month for 15k in coverage to add my el camino when it's done to my state farm policy. The only problem is the mileage restriction which was 1,500 miles a year. No garage or second vehicle was required. They have another option that would give me more miles but he said the price would be a lot more

6 of my cars are insure with hagerty classic insurance. I have 2500miles restriction per car, must have a 2nd car, must be garage kept.. and the value of the car is pretty good.. my 80 is valued at 12K my 85 442 is vaued for 23K ..The anglia 105e valued for 19k .. I think I pay a total sum of 900 a year for all six cars .. Really good insurance .. Hagerty is the way to go..

I only recently learned about Hagarty, and that is working for me since mine is not a daily driver.(I've only put on about 9000 miles in the last 13 years!)
135.00/year valued at 8000.00. I was told I could get an appraisal if I felt it was worth more than 8000.They didn't put a mileage limit on,but it's not to be used as a daily driver. They required it be in a garage, and I had to send pictures of it parked in the garage.
Washington state allows you to license it as a collector vehicle. It cost me a one time fee of 91.00

Im currently insured through my dad, but that will come to a stop this year I think.

Problem with all the specialty insurances are that you cannot drive to work. With my work hours, I drive my car to work, and go to a cruisenight right after work. If i drove home, got my car and went to the show I wouldnt get a spot, or id get there when everyone was leaving.

I talked to a Hagarty rep, and he said the driving to work was a no no. So I dont know who ill be going with. Sounds like if you have a house, the package deal is the best route. Havent heard any downsides to state farm yet.

This is the route I will be going once my restoration is completed. The first year I had my car, I used it as a daily driver and still put less than 600 miles on it
