That was a good read. I remember most car mags hated the G-bodies as too slow, too sloppy, too much plastic, etc.

The was definatley worth reading! I didnt think the GNs were that slow in the 1/4.

I bought that issue when it was new. 8) It was the first version hot air Grand National before the intercooled versions came out. My 87 was rated at 245HP & 355TQ. The thing was a simple and inexpensive turning up of the fuel & boost would let the animal out. Lots more to be had without going into the engine. All of them provided a great and inexpensive platform from which to build a really cool muscle car from.

if you compare the other crap GM and Ford were making at the time... For example the Fbodies were a great looking car, but the platform was clearly built on a budget. The body/chassis was only strong enough to handle the power they made, and those T5 transmissions would grenade with any sort of abuse. The Fbodies only had our Gs in the bends.

With factory bracing, factory swaybars, the Gs could take a lot of abuse. The 4 link rear was far superior and left potential for alot of ponies. And you wouldn't have to worry about your windshield shattering from body twist

I think the engineers at GM new these would replace the hotrods of the 70s, and secretly they wouldn't have had it any other way.

I just wish they left us a little more room to run headers with bigblocks
