Recently broke this cable which is between the front parking brake cable and the rear cables. I can't seem to find it anywhere though, it attaches with little clamps between the front and rear cables. Anybody know where to get this? Or if maybe it is included when you purchase rear cables?

When I put new cables in my 79 Cutlass, it was one front cable with 2 rear cables, nothing in between. The right rear comes across to the left rear, then the left rear hooks to the front cable.

Chillin014,
I agree with outsider_27; One front cable and a right and left rear cables! You can get them at Original Parts Group and/or The El Camino Store among others.

I agree too, no middle cable. Sounds like someone used cable clamps to mend a broken cable. Best to get new ones they are cheap at Rockauto.

As said there are only 3 cables. At least on most G-bodies anyways.

The front cable actually attaches to the drivers side rear brake cable which in turn is slipped through the equalizer. The passenger side cable just attaches to the equalizer.

chillin014,

What car do you have? I wouldn't buy a rear cable until you're sure you have the correct front cable! OPG lists a 46" for the 78-80 Monte Carlo, Malibu with auto trans......a 54 3/4" for the 78-80 El Camino with auto trans......a 47 1/4" for the 78-88 Monte Carlo, Malibu with manual trans, and the 81-88 with auto trans......a 56 1/4" for the78-88 El Camino with the manual trans, and the 81-88 auto trans.
These are remanufactured cables from OPG, but I would guess they are alot like original cables. I've had real good luck with OPG over the years, but like any company, some people may have had problems!

Sorry! I have an 81 El Camino which was originally an auto car. I need to measure the front cable I already bought, but regardless it sounds like I need the rear driver side cable since the front cable didn't even break.

It's a major pain in the *ss to remove that front cable by the way, I couldnt compress those clips to slip the cable through.

Slip a small hose clamp over it and compress it.

DING, DING, DING!!!

The ElCo has a longer wheelbase than other G-bodies. The FRONT cable is unique to the ElCo because of this. In looking at the listings on RockAuto, it's clear that most suppliers (ie, Dorman) have this wrong, because they list the same part number for the ElCo as for other G-body cars. AC Delco and Wagner DO show a unique front cable for the ElCo. Note also that AC Delco and Wagner both list different front cable part numbers for ElCos with manual trans and with automatic. The fact that you say yours was "originally an auto car" makes me think you've changed transmissions. Bottom line is that you probably have the wrong front cable. By the way, all the listings show the same rear cables on the ElCo as on other G-bodies. The wheelbase difference only affects the front cable.
