Hey everyone! I have an 86 Olds Salon with a 307 with T- Tops. I have never belonged to a car forum before so excuse my mistakes in advance I will make a lot of them! I have had my Olds since 05' and have done tons of work to her and now it seems that it's time to either redo all the work or give her up. That is why I am here. I refuse to throw in the towel on her. She and I have a special bond and it's not of the usual nature. She fell on me while getting her ready for a car show and yes it hurt like hell and she almost took my life but after my recovery i swore to her that it's Death til you die" (not me)with her.

I have tons of spare parts and tons of on going problems so maybe belonging to a GBody forum I can make new friends, get some needed advice and possibly help someone here with a rare part or 2 that I might have.

The picture is her in 06' but unfortunately she no longer is "as pretty" and that's one of my goals. If they made Botox for cars I would get it for her! But since they don't, I have to fix her from the inside first before i do any external work. I will post another picture of how she looks today. Which still isn't bad but you all know it doesn't take much for the salt and moisture to kill a car. I also can say I have proven that Macco paint jobs only last a full 5 years!

Please have patience with me while i learn how to navigate here. And thank you for having this forum
😀

welcome to the forum.

Thank you Wonderboy24! Tomorrow i'm having my car towed to the shop. It's s sad day. (yeah i know dramatic! lol) I have been told so many things that might be wrong with the car for so long from fuel perculation to the eldelbrock being bad to the starter getting hot and needing to be replaced. (big job since the headers will have to be cut off to get to it. ) ., But now it seems all my issues MIGHT be from a failing fuel pump.
I can not believe that no one has picked up on the symptoms and put them together with all the enthusiast around me. I hope that is what the issue is but in case it's not there is a 3 page list of what I am going to have them change.

Once that is all done I will be looking to replace the external chrome and do the body work. I am loving this forum and all the links to new pieces that are being made for this model. Just the headlamp bezels alone make it worth while to troll around here!

I have a few things that I will not be using like slightly used rear axles with extended 10" studs and a 350 torque converter, however i do not know what the stall is on the converter. Hopefully someone here can use them.

I am still finding my way around here but once i get more familiar i will post them in the correct place.

Well one thing for sure, this forum has a lot of great people who can help with just about any issue your car might be having. Post as much detail as possible and I bet they can help ya narrow down exactly what the cause and solution is to any of your cars issues, and if not, at least point ya in the right direction.

Welcome to the forum. Hope u get the cutlass up and going with minimal work.

Sweet Ride!!! It good to see another G body being fixed up.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!

I finally got word on "some" of my car issues from my mechanic. First off I was sooo right when I told them that the choke wasn't connected right. I saw the positive wire just hanging but since I had no power from Hurricane Sandy I 1) couldn't call anyone 2) had no cell service 3) didn't want an electrical fire just in case it was a random wire that my other mechanic forgot to tuck away after doing the intake manifold gasket.

OUTCOME: It seemed he forgot to connect it and that caused my car a ton of issues since.. wait for it... APRIL!! I have been limping around with my car since April with the choke!! grrr.. :wtf:

Ok so more bad news. I did put on the flowtech headers.. . actually this is my second set since 05' and this time around the dope that put them on didn't use the rubber gasket so there were leaks and on top of that the headers made my starter to hot.. so I was told they are surprised the car didn't go on fire cuz the battery cable was melted. :blam:

So the starter, heat shield and new battery are being installed.. but I'm on hold with the header gasket since it's a special order in this neck of the woods in NY.

The other issues regarding loss of power should be a non factor now that we know the choke wasn't hooked up. it's an edelbrock 1406 600cfm. But I have a distributor issue. I installed a Mallory and it didn't work out so I put back the OG GM one but I always had to advance it manually and retard it back when it was hot . . I think the Mallory was defective and Im not sure I want to take that chance again by trying it out .

The car is not a race car but I wanted it to be able to have some sort of giddy yap to it. I also bumped up the rear gears to 373 and I acquired a posi unit now to throw in there. again not sure if I want to do all this work if the engine is :puke:

So while they have the car i'm making them go thru everything so that i can move on from the engine and look for body parts. Like a rear bumper!! The darn thing is rusted out and gone by the neck of the gas tank.

This is one of the most recent pics I have of the car

I have almost all of the body trim to replace what's messed up and I saw here the new headlamp chrome bezels.. which I love! But but Im torn if i should just get a parts car or buy things that I need a little at a time. The bumper is the main eye sore and most expensive part to replace.

As far as the interior goes I am putting in a new driver side floor pan and then the molded carpet . then all I need are the visors and to clean up the center console. For the life of me I don't know why people insist on pushing off on it when they are in my car! They keep breaking it!! :blam:
