a couple months ago I took my alternator to get fixed, at that same time I bought a new Optima Red top battery....a couple days ago I was driving home and I noticed my guages were looking dimmer than usual, I made it home and the next morning, my car started up fine...well yesterday i was on a cruise, and started noticing the same, so i pulled over and turned the car off...well of course when i go to crank it up, it won't start...the car still had power, but not alot, the battery cables seemed fined and i loosened and re positioned the positive one and tightned it up, still no juice to crank it up...so i call my brother to come boost me, everything was fine about a mile down the road, then the same thing started happening, dimming interior light and i could tell my headlights goin dim also....about halfway home all interior lights were off and the headlights and tailights were super dim. I made it home tho and parked the car with no power at all..had to put the jumper cables on just to roll up my window...I'm pretty sure it's my alt...not doing its job, the other day i could smell that familiar smell of it getting burnt up, but blew it off...what could be causing my alt to go out???

Check all your grounds.

where'd you get it "fixed"?

at a Alternator shop,,,the guy was real cool, they've been around forever, he had to change out all the "gut's" just kept the housing

okay so jumped it again just now, and is cranked right up, but went to loosen the positive battery cable and the car shut off, didnt even take the cable off just loosened it....so that means the alternator right?

throw a voltmeter on it. (charge the battery up first) you should have 12.6 at the batt, 13.8-14.4 running. and as you turn on accessories the voltage should drop. you may have a bad batt that's draining the voltage and not taking a charge.

If the battery cable was loosened and the car quit running, then the alternator is the likely suspect. I know you know you can take it to most parts stores and have it tested. But if it wasn't long ago it was rebuilt, take it back where the work was done and have it tested and fixed if necessary.
