First off let me say this is a great site with lots of good information. I'm torn between two G-bodies, the 84-87 Cutlass Supreme and the same year T-Type/Grand National. I have been a big fan of both since they were introduced. If I had to choose just one it would be the Buicks cause I'm a turbo junkie, but the like the looks of the Olds. For me the perfect combination would be a Buick drive train in an Olds.
And now the big question.... have any of you seen a T-Type/GN drive train in a Cutlass? If not, how dificult would it be to do assuming I have a solid Olds and a complete Buick drive train? Thanks.

G body parts are interchangeable and it is possible and has been done to many G body cars.
You will need besides engine and trans,
Fuel tank and pump assembly
wire harness
computer
Probably a few other things I cant think of right now.
If you swap all this into a 442, you will be good for the diff but if its a regular cutlass you will need to upgrade.
The buick GN/T type and the olds 442 were the only G body cars that got the 8.5 diff.
The parts are out there but you would be better off finding a doner car cause it could nickel and dime you to death.

possibilities are endless it all depends on where your pocketbook ends 😀

For now, my pockets are kinda shallow, so this would be a long term project. Besides I'm not sure I could convince my wife to give up her side of the garage so both cars could be out of the elements. My current thinking is that I should find and buy the Buick first since their values are going up and I'm going to need most of the car to make this work. If any of you know where I can get info or pictures on a swap like this please post them.

If you get a V6 olds, it will bolt right in. You will need the crossmember from the 4spd auto and the rear. If you can get a wrecked t type/gn you'll have everything you'll need.

If your olds is 1981? or older, you may not have the right holes to bolt the crossmember to though.

I had a hard time decideing between a GN & a 442. I bought the GN and am glad I did. That being said I always liked the 442 and had a hankering for a strong big block. So now years later I acquired a 442 and put the 307 on the floor to install a 509ci Cad. They both run mid 12s on gas can't decide which I like better. The GN turns more heads and gets more compliments but the BB is more fun just stop lighting around town. I say do both.
