i got a 83 cutlass v6 but i bought a 305 from a 86 monte carlo ss that had a 200r hooked to it. i found this add on craigslist for a th350c transmission for $180
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/pts/499996380.html
can the th350c transmission bolt right up to the 305....if not then i'll just wait untill i find a 200r. also what does the c mean for the th350c transmission most of the time i just see th350

stick with the 200r4. it has very good gearing and that overdrive is really nice on the highway. actually, depending on what kind of power and gearing you have you'll be in overdrive most of the time. (that's under normal driving, my 383 has enough power that i never need more than 1/2 throttle going up hills)

ok but what other moves do i have since the 350 is out. i know the 200r4 bolts right up but what about the 700r. in my area i dont see the 200r4 for sale that much but theres tons of the 700r and th350s. i just need a transmission that will bolt right up then i'll buy a shift kit an upgrade the torque converter as well

sorry i thought the 305 came with a 200r4
have you tried the junkyards? the 305 has little enough power that a junkyard trans is a safe bet. most people think the 200r4 is junk so they just trash 'em and the 'yards don't have a clue either so they are cheap. theres no real point in trying to adapt a 700 to your car. plus the 200r4 is in some ways better than a 700.
i know that you just bought the 305 but i wouldn't bother with it. why go through the trouble when a 350 has loads more power and are a dime a dozen?
if absolutely necessary the 700 will bolt up since the 305 is a chevy engine, but you will need a new crossmember. you may need to change brackets and/or cables.
samething with the 350. if i remember correctly the "c" denotes a lockup converter.

If you are in the LA area, you should have no problem finding a cheap U pull it yard to get a trans from. Car Craft uses them all the time in their stories. I believe they use Ecology and Pick Your Part. Don't just look under G bodies, look at the B bodies too. Newer is better, but most are universal bolt pattern. Just avoid any that are in Cadillacs with the 4.1 liter V8 as they will not work.

the only reason im still tryin to drop the 305 is because i got a good motor in great runnin condition for dirt cheap and also the hardest part is gettin everything swap over turning the car into a v8 so i would rather get my car in order now for my plans later on down the line. my big time plans with the car is to drop a new turn key 350 in it 2010. i have a legal settlement im going through so once the layers complete everything i'll have funds to do whatever i want to my car. this is just prep season for whats to come in 2 years. we do have quite a few pick-n-pulls around here (bay area) so i'll see if i could find a 200 there. as you said with the 700 and the 350 will need some changes to work but it can be done. how are those th400's?
most likely i do the 200 but im on hear to learn and ask questions so im really tryin to see what trannies work with the lil build im doin at this present time because i dont want to wait 2 years rolling like i am now v6 style.

A TH-400 is unnecessary for anything but a stout big block. It will eat too much power for the 305 and make the car slower. Plus, the short tail shaft TH-400 is hard to come by, and that is the one you want in a passenger car.

By the way, once you start going to U Pull It yards, a whole new world will open up to you and you will not want to buy your parts anywhere else. Much of my G body came from the local U Pull It's around here, and I typically visit 3-4 of them on my junkyard day. It may take me 150-200 miles of driving, but the hunt is well worth it. You never know what someone has had sitting in a garage or back yard for years that eventually gets junked and winds up there. In fact, for a G body, it is really the only type of yard you have a good chance of finding parts in. Many of the pre-pulled parts style yards do not dismantle cars this old and crush them as soon as they get them.
