Is there a most desirable th350 year?

Not sure about '82, but '83 was a lockup converter version. Check for an electrical connection on the driver side of the case. All years are good strong transmissions, but I prefer the multi- bolt pattern kind so I can use it with any motor. My '76 was a multi.
 
For strength, I suppose the THM375B would be the more desirable. It's basically a heavy duty version of the THM350.

This not to be (easily) confused with the THM375 (without the B) which is a lighter-duty THM400.

For an everyday TH350 they really only differ as far as the lock up feature on later versions and number of clutches and plates. Also the multifit case which is pretty nice to have if you are planning to swap between BOP and Chevy.
