Okay so i saw this cutlass on kijiji http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicle ... Z441370533 Guy said he would go as low as 400$. Now ive been wanting to learn and practice body work and this car looks like a good project to start on. It has a chevy 350 with the turbo 400 Transmission. He said it started to leak coolant from the top near the carb but he said ill have to see it to know what it is. He said frame and floors are solid its just the body that looks very rough. Is this car too late to save or possibly start restoring? What would you guys do> He also says it runs and drives really well.

thats a piece of crap

You'll replace more than you keep. It's unlikely that the frame and floors are "solid" if the rest of the body looks like that. I would ask for proof that it's a 350/400 (#s and pics). Judging from the way the ad reads I doubt it's a very knowledgeable seller.

Well, it's a beater but still if you can get it for $400 I would buy it.
Around here I could easily double my money or more parting it out based on the pictures if the frame and interior are good even more as long as you don't mind doing the labor.
Obviously you would also need a place to strip it and store parts.

No way the floors are solid. You can see in the pictures that show the inner rear wheel wells that there are holes, or at least significant decay. My car had the same thing, the seam looked about the same as that but once I started digging I found the seam between the wheel well and floor pan was separated the whole way around. It's up to you, but I know what I'm paying to get all my issues fixed and it ain't cheap, and mine looked way better than that in pictures on kijiji.

hell if you got him down to 400 than id go ahead and get it. If you cant do anything with the car, at least pull the motor and trans and stash them for a better car later on

@ 400 you can't go too far wrong if it has some decent parts to pull. I agree with the others that it is probably far worse than it looks. Only you can judge if it is in the range of work you want to invest. I bought and parted 3 cars completely for parts to build mine. the car alone as scrap wieght is worth most of that price.

Bottom line look it over VERY closely and make your choice based on your skill, patience, and depth of wallet.

If all you want to do is practice body work you can go to any body shop and ask for a scrap door, hood or fender. Takes up a whole lot less space than that barnacle Cutlass.

If it's your first resto it would be very overwhelming. If your looking to learn auto body skills you can go to local body shops or junk yards and get body panels for free or very cheap. Then you can dent them repair them, cut and reweld, make patches or modify. Then look for a car that needs work. You will be happier and less stressed in th end.

Yeah you guys are probably right , ill go ahead and stay away from this one .
