You need the proper harness.
In your picture, one is the 3-wire style and one is a 2-wire connector.

IIRC, the two-wire connector works with the cruise control systems that have a separate "On-Off" switch on the dash, not on the stalk.

The three-wire stalk works on vehicles where the "On-Off" switch is built into the stalk itself.

The easy way to replace that wire harness is to hook a small "fish" wire through the hole in the connector (that's what the hole is there for!!) Pull the old cable up through the column, then hook the fish wire through the hole in the replacement cable and pull it (gently!) down through the column.
 
guess i have to replace the switch anyway, the wipers are constantly on. swapped em in 20 minutes tho 😀 so at least ive got that to be proud of. ignition cylinder is a bit faulty too so i may have to replace that too.
