yup 8.5 posi

How much is he selling it for?

500$ for the rear and adjustable upper control arms, it doesn't look like it's in bad shape at all, but going to pull the cover myself and check the gears and clutches

That without a doubt is 100% a 8.5 10 bolt and for $500 with the other parts hell even without them is a deal of a lifetime. Make sure you dont see any missing tabs off the clutch steals if so its going to need a new posi. The tabs are the pieces in the square notch in the picture with cover removed on the right. Check both sides. From pic one side looks good. Also take a measurement from backing plate to backing plate that rear might not be out of a gbody it could be out chevelle , pontiac ext. Which will be a wider rear and would require different control arms and offset rims but will work in a gbody. Cant remember the rear measurement for a gbody off the top off my head i am sure someone will chime in with that.

The pontiac and chevelle rear ends 64-72 has the spring perch sitting more towards the front of the axle tube. If you do need new clutch packs there are companies out there that have the OEM stock for those posi's. Eaton may not have any parts. The other thing you'll want to check on an Eaton is that they used brass thrust washers on the pinion gears and they wear out. Eaton did change them out to steel at some date but you should really check that.

Body Style Housing Width
64-67 Chevelle 54.250"
68-72 Chevelle 55.250"
67-69 Camaro 54.250"
62-67 Chevy II 52.125"
70-81 Camaro 55.375"
82-92 Camaro 55.750"
93-up Camaro 59.250"
68-76 Nova 54.250"
78-88 A/G Body 52.125"
Here is the measurements of rears that will fit a gbody with some changes.

Its not a GN 8.5 but it is an 8.5

it looks like it might be out of a caprice.

The brake line junction is in the wrong spot.

the upper ears are in the wrong spot and angled wrong

have him tell you the gear ratio. if its stock the 8.5 for GN/442 only came with 3.42 or 3.73 gearing.

I have a feeling those are 3.23

over priced junk. I could barely sell one for the $100 i bought it for. Ive been there.

also the mounting flanges might be 5x5 not the 5x 4.75 that the G bodies are

for reference.

here is an 87 GN rear that had 3.42s. notice the ears

I knew something looked off about that rear just couldnt picture it. At first I thought it was the spring perches but i figure someone may have just put repair plates on. But what you pointed out deff confirms its not a gbody rear. GN came with 3.42 stock.
