It's that time of the year so the Jeep in on the road. It's a 99 2 door Cherokee. The steering seems to be heavier then I remember and it does not roll back to centre. Could it be the steering stabiliser that''s causing that problem?

Every time I ever had a vehicle with a blown steering stabilizer it made the steering feel loose and sloppy not tight, and I'd get a lot of shimmy when driving down the road. Assuming that some of these parts are greasable, did you grease the idler arm, and the tie rod ends and what not? And make sure that the power steering reservoir is full?

It could just be your imagination, the power steering in my Regal was overly powerful, you could turn the wheel from lock to lock with your pinky at a stand still... So if you're used to driving the grand prix all year it might just take some getting used to.

Sorry you probably did those things... Just thinking out loud.

No need to ever apoligize for suggesting something, I can overlook anything probably better than most..

I though it was just something to get used to after my GP but it is easier and returns by itself to centre going left but going right its heavier and it does not return to centre without a little help so I don't think it's anything binding in the front end and it is greased. One good thing it passed the E test today no problem with oil that has over 12 k on it and it's been then since the fall of 2011 plus the gas is from July of this year.

You could always just disconnect the stabilizer and take it for a quick drive.

I got a friend of a friend who drives a jeep all year to drive it and he laughed at me and said this is the way a vehicle should handle and my GP must be fuked if it doesn't handle like a jeep...

I can tell you by personal experience fixing a vehicle is much easier than fixing my mind which by the way has been a lifetime ambition but proving to be an impossible task 8)

I'd look to alignment, my jeeps always return to center when turning in either direction, unless I'm running my offroad tires with 5 psi  , just a thought.

It does return to centre and it's gotten better since I've driven it a few days. I want to get a 4 door Jeep so I'm thinking of selling it but I know I won't get back my money I have put into it. I bought it for $650 three winters ago and I must have put at least $500 in repairs...
