well i am in the process of buying it. making payments haha. im picking it up for 1800 bucks. its gonna be my fiances car. its an 84 gp le with t tops.chassis has a 191,*** on it but verything is documented and replaced suspension wise, and no joke rolls down the road smoother than my future father in laws 2007 mercury milan. the cars got a 40,000 original documented milage 326 pontiac out of a 67 tempest, runs like a brand new car. my question is the frame rails arre repairable in the rear i belive, just wondering if there are after market replacments availble. other thean the rails it needs body work and we already got the figured out. also arethere any ways to enhance the performance of a 326?

Usually the biggest bang for the accelration buck is a gear change. Depending on whether it has the 3 or the 4 speed overdrive transmission as to which gear would be best. With the 3 speed usually a 3.08 or a 3.23. With overdrive usually a 3.42 or 3.73.

The 326 has a bit of power potential, but swap in a rear with 3.23's (3 spd) or 3.73's (4 spd) and you'll feel the difference.

sounds like a pretty nice car honeslty congrats~!

I've seen one aftermarket supplier of frame rails, don't recall the name, try googling. They're out there.

Nice score.

326z can run,just put one in a 64 Tempest ragtop,sweet as butter.

Just do not apply SBC tech to it !

Here is what "I" would do:

Qjet or 600/650 cfm carb of your choice
Edelbrock performer or old p4B ( people almost give these away)
Summit 2800 cam kit, will work with stock valvetrain
HEI with light springs
Ram air manifolds or cheapy 3 tube headers will fit your chassis
Pypes 2.5 x pipe system with dynomax turbos
"one step" up from stock convertor 1800/2200 stall
3.23 gear with 25/26 inch tall tire, 3.55 27/28 tire

Tune it and you will have a great all around motor.

I have a bunch of the stuff you need if interested  .

This is the place i think srercrcr is referring to. I've never dealt with him, but this is the only person ive seen selling rear frame parts. Good luck with your new project

thanks for the replies.i read some where the 67 326 with a 4bbl, had 285 stock horse, which if thats really the case, i may wind up just doing a different dual set up than whats on it, a sh*t kit in the th400, and try and find a carrier assembly for the rear with posi 3.42s. it actually started life a as 6er so its got the 2.41s in back which i know aint no good cause my cutlass is thesame deal. im not going crazy on the pontiac, cause it will be my fiances car and its just to pretty to see get wrecked.

Putting a "sh*t kit " in it really gets you nothing but it feels faster (sorry had too  )

Go gears first, then a convertor to take advantage of the gears.

Since it sounds like you got duals, just replace the logs with RA or 3 tubes and be done with it.

Of note is horsepower ratings were calculated totally different in the 60s, not comparable to todays numbers. Seen any 400 hp cars around here lately?
