I have my engine and trans in the car, all bolted up and ready to start with wires and all. I tried for a few hours yesterday to find the correct bolt to the kickdown cable hold-down bolt and couldn't find it.

I think my threads might be stripped on the inside. But does anyone know what size bolt this is??? It would help a ton.

Im soo frustrated. It's a slow drip...drip...drip

I took the cable out and managed to save a few quarts of fluid, think I lost one or two already. I'm about to pull this whole mess back out (really don't want to cuz I'll lose another 3 quarts out the back)

So if anyone knows what size bolt that is please let me know

I'm just thinking outside of the box here....

Is the bolt too stripped to tighten down?

If it's not too stripped to tighten down, try wrapping it with some teflon tape before it's installed...

ya, it's pretty messed up. I tried just about everything. The threads are recessed down in the hole, so with the trans in the car it's hard to see if they're fine or coarse. I'd like to find the right sized/thread bolt so I can try and clean the threads out with a tap.

And if that doesn't work then i'll have to pull everything out and drill/tap

This would've been bolted down before the trans went in the car if the guys at the auto parts store knew their *ss from a hole in the ground.

here's an idea of the conversation I had:

me-"I need a kickdown cable for a turbo 350"

guy-"okay, a three speed, right?"

"yes, a three speed, It just can't be like this one for a turbo 200 [I show the guy my old th200 cable]"

"oh, it looks the same though"

"but it's not, see how the hole at the end is too wide? it won't fit"

"okay, I'll have the three speed one in for you tomorrow"

"the th350 three speed cable right? can't be for the 200"

"yes, one for the th350"

Get the cable in and it's for a th200
The guy had to return it and swap for the th350 cable. That was the day I put the engine in and now I'm having issues with bolting it in without any room to bolt it in

Just blowing off a little steam 😛

Since the threads are already messed up you could try a slightly larger self-tapping screw. If that doesn't work -- you were going to have to pull it anyway. As for losing fluid out the back, if you don't have a tailhousing plug you can use a rubber glove stretched over the tailhousing.

good thinkin drivin, thanks for the advice. I'll try it this weekend and see if I have any luck. If not, out comes the engine again for the 3rd time. At least I'm gettin good at it 😀

I've built two 350Cs and two regular 350s. ALL of them had metric bolts for the kickdown and speedo cables. Everything else was inch. According to a local transmission guy this isn't unusual.

One of the cases was missing most of the threads in the kickdown hole where someone had tried to cross-thread an inch bolt in there.

You might be able to tap the hole for 1/4-20 or a close metric size if you can get your hands around the exhaust.
