Hello everyone,
i have a 79 malibu and i need to replace my leaky brake master cyl. What are my options ? what years and models are interchangable ? thank you for the help.

on G bodies they are all interchangeable..even the ones on the power brake S 10's are the same. Rebuilt ones are not that expensive either..

Your options are- Get a shop to do it. Quick and not too expensive. - or- Do it yourself if you are mechanically inclined, have tools, and have read up on it or have done brakes before or have a tutor to guide you. Replacement masters are not expensive and you get the satisfaction of a job well done. If you are all thumbs, please don't touch your brakes.

thanks pontiac gp that was the answer i was looking for. thanks again

the other posts were as helpful as mine was and in fact they brought up a good point about not using a used master...plus tc1959 has an awsome looking car and he provided you a link...bonnewagon is a super nice guy who makes beer runs so if you live close enough to him you can probably head over there and drink some of his beer while he replaces your master...lol

when you do replace the master there will be a kit that comes with a new or rebuilt master along with the instructions to bench bleed the master..and don't skip that process thinking bleeding the brakes will bleed the master...it won't and don't ask me how I know.. 😳

As far as interchange, I even used an 80' Firebird cast iron master in my Malibu and got less pedal travel, slightly more pedal effort, and tons more peace of mind over the wimpy Chevy aluminum master that was on there. Hey Steve, I just made a beer run and I now have 1,104 Stegmaier porters down my basement. That should carry me through the winter nicely.
