UPDATE JUNE 2012: I tried to sell the Caballero for several weeks and ended up trading it for a 2002 Honda VTX 1800. In 6 days I sold the VTX on Craigslist for $5,200. I drove a Honda Accord sedan for several months but there wasn't anything to wrench on with that car so I bought my current Gbody for $5,000 on Thanksgiving 2011. The build thread for that 1982 el Camino is linked here.

I'm going to use this post as a ledger to keep track of how much $$$ I sink into the Cab. It will also serve to keep tabs on my wish list and regular maintenance projects. If you've got any feedback on why I should use this or that part or if you know of a good source of the parts I'm looking for I'd appreciate the feedback.

Some pics would generate more interest in your thread. I would also re-title it as a build thread.

I've found with my projects over the years that it's really better to not add up stuff like that...

I've got a folder with over $13,000 in reciepts for my 442 over the years... That's just parts. (yeah, I made the mistake of adding it up! )

Not knocking your thread here, as depressing as the total may be, it is kinda fun to keep track of.

But if you're married, just make sure your wife doesn't see this!

Yeah, that's the idea. This is just a ledger to keep track of cost and provide part numbers for other forum members. At some point I'll add a "projects" heading and link that to other posts detailing road bumps I ran into and how they were overcome during various upgrades.

What caught my eye about this car, aside from the 'totally 80's' paint scheme was the four-speed. It has a saginaw which was a bit of a downer but the previous owner just had it gone-through and a new clutch installed. At some point someone put an 81-83 malibu dash in place of the stocker and put 'SS' stickers/emblems all over the place. Unfortunately it's tough to pass off a GMC SS so I've been swapping it back to GMC badging and using the original Caballero Laredo badges which I reckon to be much more rare than an SS, especially since GMC changed the 'Larado" option to the "Amarillo" after Jeep started using Laredo on its cherokee.

I drive it about 2-3 times a week and start taking it apart on Friday after work with various weekend projects 🙂
