I put in a new tank and the way the filler neck was installed, it hit the plate. So I reversed the plate so it flips up instead of down. Works great!!!!

How I mounted it from the back side...

And the front...

With it mounted on the car...

Clever......but, woudn't your licence plate read upside down now? 😛

Nope I just used the bottom holes in the plate instead of the top ones!!

I would think that'd be less convenient for filling? A stay down plate holder from an F/B-body solves the problem of having to use the gas cap to hold it open.

Maybe I didn't word it right. The filler neck sticks out the back of the car too much so you can't move the plate bracket down and it can't open at all. It was easy to fill this way and now it opens.

Ah, I see what you mean. Was the tank from another g-body? They have different necks on them for the different models. When I replaced my tank (with one from a Regal IIRC), I had the original neck soldered on to the new tank.

It was a 307A GM tank. I am not sure if the original tank was 16 gallons and this one is 17 gallons, maybe that is the reason. I also had a hard time getting it in.
