That's all you can do, is try to unscrew them.
Key is to never tighten the dog pee out of them when installing them. Just run them down and give them a light "snuggie" and leave it at that. Then, every year or so, just unscrew them a bit, and screw them back down. Hope nobody got the idiotic idea of putting loctite or some goop on them. Unfortunately, there's only one way to get them off. Technically, you could probably disassemble the entire shifter assembly and get the pushrod out from the bottom that way, but I'd only do that as a last resort because that's some work right there.
