What is the real benefit from a lock up converter? I am in the porocess of putting a built 700r4 transmission in my car, '84 Monte Carlo with 514 hp, 12 bolt rear with 4:56 gears.....Will be street and sometimes strip. I was told the lock up is only woth around 300 rpm...............I think with my set up I won't need the lock up.....
OPinions appreciated 🙂
Thanks

The advantage is that tiny bit more gas mileage as well as less heat from slippage. On a stocker it matters but for a balls-out monster probably not. I hooked the lockup switch on my dash so I could engage it at will, or not.

you will probably go for a smaller od torque converter ...if so dont go lock up
the diminutive clutch system wont hold up the increased HP.....

lock up is mainly for highway usage .....
