Look what followed us home from the Cadillac dealer.

2020 CT5-V Series. aka CT5-V light. Less calories. Same great taste.

Wife had been driving by the dealership for the last few weeks whining about that cool red Cadillac out front. Amazingly, she hasn't been real happy with her XT5 for whatever reason. So...I promised her if they gave us AT LEAST (certain amount) for the XT5 then I'd let her buy it. Welp, they did better than that, and now it's a matter of trying to keep her out of jail. It's not quite as powerful as a real CTS-V like creature, but it has twin turbo 3.0 V6 with 360 HP and 10 speed auto. I guess it helps when you keep your car clean and in good shape. Got more than typical top trade-in value for the XT5. It's also a plus it only had 4539 miles on it.

It's red. Velocity red. Ticket me silly red. And LOADED to the gills. Darn near every option. Good thing is it keeps her happy with some performance yet it isn't fully grown to be dangerous. I don't think. Lots of nannies to keep her safe, though.

GM employee discount, $2500 cash back, and a $500 coupon from the dealership helped seal the deal as well. Very pleased with the minimized financial damage from trading in a 2019. Could have been much worse. Goodbye SUV.

Out the door with $250/month for 72 months 0%. Thanks GM Financial.

Took it out today hoping I'd get to "seat the rings" a little bit. Oh, but no. Wife wanted to tag along. It is her car after all. I tried to get into it a little, but she started beeching about my trying to put my foot into it.

I laughed a little when I did give it a little gas, though. The car has a sort of throaty exhaust system, but it's tagged to a distinctive V6 gurgle to it. Reminds me a little of the GNs of old the way it sounds when you get on it a little.

I have the 10 speed auto in the truck and I really like it, but in this car, the 10 speed is virtually silk smooth. The only time the shifts seem discernable at all is starting off cold. Once warm the only way you know it's shifting is hearing the RPM drop between shifts.

Electric steering adjusts the feedback too depending on if you're in touring or track modes or somewhere in between. LOTS of squirrely buttons, but the best button on the console is the "auto stop" override button. You can turn it off (comes on automatically when car starts- which sucks). The XT5 didn't even have that option.

On the way home I did pop on the back massager. Neat little option but feels like a couple of Gremlin hands pop up from the back inside of the seat trying to get out slowly kneading your back as they're looking for a way out. Kinda creepy.

One thing that IS a PITA, is those little front tire air dam thingies hanging off the front of the bumper on each end. They're literally about 1.5" or so from the ground. I figure, ok, I'll take this semi smooth entrance into the post office parking lot. NEVER had an issue with the ZL1 scraping coming in at an angle on nearly anything similar, especially this low clearance. Oh, no, not this thing. SKKKRRRP!! goes the front "ground feelers". NOTHING should be scraping making that turn there. Except this car.

I believe there's a bit of a clearance mod coming to those darn things. I told the wife "If you do this enough times, it'll eventually stop as it gains its own clearance." She looked at me like I was an idiot. I get that look a lot. I think I'm gong to cut off about another inch on those bastages. Probably wouldn't be able to tell, but maybe it'll be a little more forgiving. So far, that's the only thing that's irritating on the car I've found.

Other than that, it's tight as your best friend's sister. So far. Since it hasn't been broken in yet. Kind of impressive for not being a full-out V.

Pretty car, love the red. Strange how two turbos and only 360hp. The direct injection 3.6ltr in my 14’ Impala makes 305hp. I bet the Caddy gets up and goes really well, my car gets going just fine. 👍

Like most turbo cars, there's bound to be a bunch of power locked up in the factory tune. How long until that's addressed?
