what do you guys think? I've heard good and bad things about them. I'm thinking about grabbing a set for my early 70's 4bolt 350. What do I need to change? Is there alot of intake choices? Will my standard square port headers work on them? Do the have all the same accessory holes as my 350 (my origanal 87 4.3 did)? What about rockers? Also what about upgrades for them/aftermarket stuff? Like I say I'm just kinda kicking the idea around because my heads need guides anyway.

Well, the intake is needed for sure, and you may also need valve springs and some machine work, depending on the cam you are running. If you are looking at new heads, consider some of the other alternatives as well. If you have a good intake already, you can use the savings off the cost of the new intake to offset the higher price of another brand of heads. This way, you wind up at the same price point, but may wind up with a better overall value. Vortec's also do not have screw in studs. They have the poorer press fit studs which need to be changed out by a machine shop if you run an aggressive cam. They also require tip guided rockers, which is yet another cost to consider. I would also investigate the Patriot heads, World Products S/R Torquers, Dart Iron Eagles, etc. More money for the heads, but you may come out ahead in the long run.

im a huge fan of camel humps and vortecs, we are running vortecs in our elky streep/strip car, with a solid flat tappet cam, and the cars pushing around 475hp, screw in studs and guild plates are a VERY good adea for any performance application, there cheap too, the most common intake run with vortecs is a victor junior, id say they are the best bang for the buck. they seem to flow good to with a good CC, you can run roller rockers with no prob,

i ran camel humps on my small block, the cutty weighed in at 3700lbs race weight and i got a 12.45 out of it on street tires,

350, .030 comp 282/500 lift, roller rockers, major port work, screw in studs and guild plates, stock crank, edelbrock airgap, bla bla bla...heres a vid without tuning, and VERY bad traction, the wagon on the left is running almost the same setup with a lil bigger cam and an airgap intake, yet mine seemed to pull on it

thanks guys, I've still gotta run the casting numbers off the heads I have because the motor I've got is suppose to be an origanal LT1. Most likely I'll be back on here with numbers up pretty soon.

The World S/R Torquers are pretty much a reproduction of the old Camel Hump fuelie heads with more meat for porting and thicker decks. They have a 171cc intake port, which I think is a bit bigger than the old ones, and the casting quality is probably a bit better too.

Check your casting #s on Mortec.com at least you will have an idea what they are off of. Im running vortecs on a 355... pleased with them so far allthough my cam is under 500 lift.
