Depressing the accelerator before starting your car is required if you are running a carburetor. You need the pump shot for the initial start. Electronic fuel injection does this for you. If you decide to use an electric fuel pump with your carburetor, you will need a pressure regulator to reduce pressure to the carb. In my opinion, in tank pumps are the way to go. An external pump is noisy and will drive you crazy.

Pressing the gas pedal once before starting is required to set the choke. Nothing more.

Depends on the condition of the carb and tune. My 403 with 800 cfm rochester requires a few pumps. In fact, I think the owners manual recommends pumping the pedal for cold starts.

As stated, electronic fuel injection systems also provide a simulated pump shot at initial start up.

thanks alot guys i have to pump the gas pedal numerous times before my vehicle will start,so i was under the impression that an elec. fuel pump would help
