you can but there is a 30 amp breaker protecting the system so if you do tap into the lines you might want to put the power thru a fuse..

or get a powerprobe which is designed for that purpose

Power to one side of the switch and ground the other side. If it goes up, switch the wires. Basic electric.

Yeah, I had my door off one time, so I used an automotive batter charger
