Are these the correct parts you used?
I plan on using a 6L90 trans. Hopefully, they are the same?
Also, what would be a good choice for a trans-cross member?

This is what my current shopping list looks like now.
1986 Pontaic Grands Prix LE
Engine: L96 6.0/ 6L90.

I am trying to keep the cost down. Would you have any advice on my shopping list regarding unneeded parts or cheaper alternatives?

I'm working on doing this now. I had to cut the floorpan to get the 6l90 to fit.

I'll be interested to see how it turns out

I even have new body bushings and can't see a way to make it fit without cutting.

Going out shortly to work on it to see how high it actually sits.

The high point on the 6l90 is right around where the tailpiece meets the transmission housing. The trans is tight everywhere else. Looks like 2" higher at the tailpiece. I think this would make removal VERY tight.

I put engine and trans in together. The floorpan has to be cut for the oil pan to clear the cross member. If done separately you may only need to cut a small piece. It will more than likely be tight everywhere else. Either way the trans cross member may need dropped for clearance.

Now for me to decide how much clearance to leave if I would ever have to pull this again.

If anyone wants pics for reference I can get them later.

Hey everyone. I guess we're all getting a little more creative with transmissions these days... well I also had to get creative with my g body. I'm using a 1984 4 door regal and bough a spare cutlass supreme 4door for parts. This thread was a starting point for my build, knowing I was going to have to cut the trans tunnel for the bigger trans. So far there's about 4 people I think who have a 6l90 in one. I was surprised to see new replies since I last checked it.

I found this one build here -
This thread is very helpful in general for 6l90 stuff - https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-hybrids/898899-6l80-6l90-into-68-camaro-does-go.html

I have already purchased a G8 oilpan and have it adapted for more clearance. I used these motor mounts from ebay - https://www.ebay.ca/itm/32469843433...d=link&campid=5335822911&toolid=20001&mkevt=1

I have a L96 and a 6l90 which has been a fun experience for my first build at any car. I have a long way to go but I'm enjoying this challenge. Here's some pictures. Go easy on me, I'm learning lol... I'm going to try to adapt the trans crossmember to the V8 diesel trans mounts. hard to tell in that picture but there's two mount locations on the drivers side.

I'm not quite sure where to stop cutting my tunnel, I could continue upwards but I'm going to do more adjustments first. In these pics it is resting on the wood block under the car for support, not much room clearing the steering rack right now... maybe I should create a new thread...

Nice to see someone else doing this right now. We are both at about the same point. I cut more tunnel out than you did. I wanted to make sure I had room. I'm using ICT billet plates with the SBC pads and clamshells.

Where you have cut at seemed to me to be about the highpoint. I went more because I wanted to know that I could remove the engine and trans together and have room.

What are doing for the cross member? That's what I have to figure out next.

Still figuring that out - the third pic shows the stock crossmember on the weird V8 mount and the regular passenger side mount. It's completely sideways.

I was thinking of chopping the ears off, re-aligning it and welding new ones on, and slightly extending the end of the factory mount, it's maybe 3-4CM away from the mounting point. The height looks correct.

Alternatively I could just bite the bullet and get this - https://www.speedwaymotors.com/G-Fo...ion-Crossmember-78-88-G-Body-GM-6,455936.html

That will defeat the purpose of learning to weld so I think I'll fumble with the crossmember for a few weeks first. OP and other posters have modded the factory crossmember to do true dual exhaust as well.

As I did this I realized that my body bushing are all toast so I need to take the body off and replace those before I continue. I won't cut anymore as I think it'll actually fit nicely when I regain the 2-3 CM the body has fallen on to the frame.
