headers -----ended up using fbody camaro and doing a little tweaking----250.00
carb--- 400.00
motor mounts-adapters---- 150.00
trans adapter plate 150.00
This ia all the basic stuff tour gonna have to have to just get started .
I am doing just a conversion that is mainly for the strip with afew cruise nights added in and this thing has plucked my last nerve! custom grind cam kit with springs retainers ect---1000.00
electric water pump with all the braided lines and thermostat housing-800.00
without knowing more info hard to even respond to this thread, i didnt know if he was looking for one stolen, or what, to vague... anyhow, for others reading too...
the 6.0 (or even a 6.2 which I love) is an awesome motor...

but you can also get, with budget in mind and some performance:
2003ish 5.3 $500, with pcm and harness and good mileage
sell the accessories off it (complete intake, ps/brackets, etc) -$200
total for motor $300

buy ls1/6 intake, with rails/injectors and injector pigtails, which you will need to change on your truck harness $200

LS1 (98-02 front accessories), if no ac, power steering pump/brackets, alt. brackets, water pump, idler, tensioner, balancer $300

LS6 yellow springs (brand new) $56
LS6 cam (5308) 150-200 depending on how patient you are

fuel system (wix filter, walbro inline pump, an fittings, hose, inlc braided etc.) from tank to rail $300

motor mount kit (set back) $70

adapter flexplate with longer screws for 700r/350 (or old style non electric) transmission $53

re work your own harness, NO COST and easy to do

nice fuse box and relay set up $100 (current performance can do this for much less though

computer reflashed $75 incl return shipping

brand new stock replacement aluminum radiator with provisions for steam holes $112

labor, do it yourself, cost of beers/liquid encouragement $100

36" lokar throttle cable $50

bto tv cable $150

net roughly=$2066

anything I missed, ask and ill add estimated price, or ill go back later and add, when i remember, but those are the basics

and that ls6 cam is a beast for the price, used roller cams usually stay in great shape and dont wear bad if at all with low mileage

cheaper than going carb (if you have the intake and injectors to began with) and inj is super easy to get to work

doing tons of research will save you tons of money and will be done right... I have done several of these swaps with my bro and am currently doing something with my project (a little less budget oriented though), so there are may people willing to help

$2066 isnt bad for a motor that will out perform a 350, it would cost more to rebuild a decent running 355, trust me. and there is money to be cut there too... but for a decent proj not bad... take off that ls1 intake/ls6 cam/springs/ etc. and it will be cheaper, the stock truck intake out performs the ls1 anyway... but may have hood clearance issues, if using a induction hood, like the one I have for sale, you dont have to do anything with the motor or accessories...

No offense buddy but you have a better chance of pissing on the moon when you throw the word "reasonable price" in any of those two equations. If it were reasonably priced to do LS swaps we all would. Nonetheless Ls1 deals are few and far between, but they are around.. Couple months back ran into a brand new 0 miles ls1 create motor for 1200. Good luck
depending on how much you do yourself and what you know, it can be done for a reasonable price... as sx455 said, depends on your definition...

DAMN skip you the man! broke it all down...and im just building a measly 350 LOL lots of good info here though ..adding to my collection of print outs 😀

there are little bits, odds and ends brother, you already know I got you, when it comes time... hell im just doing a measly ls305 right now 😀 , but it should give some motivation when Im done

I found a 5.3 ls1 for $600, standalone engine harness and computer for $1,300, lh8 oil pan for $300, engine adapter plates and mounts $300, custom cross member $400, im running stock manifolds, intake, and putting 700r4 behind it, with magna flow exhaust, 3.73 gears. Im just making a good running street car for my 83, dont really plan on stripping it at all. Now my 84, i running ls2 6.0, with 700r4,so that i can still use my lightening rods, headers, electric cut outs, also magna flow, 3.73 gears, front and rear 12 in. disc brakes(willwood), also mostly street, not really the strip, ill take it just to have fun, not for anything competitive. thats what i came up with so far, im looking at a total of somewhere around $3,000-$5,000 done. Some guy had a ls1 monte carlo ss already done for $6,000, which was a reasonable price i thought, vs. paying like 12,000 to have it done.

if you have more of a budget in mind and just want to get things started for now, then just get a good low mile 5.3 and leave it stock, a stock 5.3 will outperform a stock 350 any day..., sometimes its cheaper to do a little more now and be patient, than it is to just put it in and pull it back out...

figure out what your real goal is, then make a list add it all up, add about $1000 to your budget to be safe and then start on it... if you are not in a hurry and take your time, you will save money in the long run... building a car is about being patient and doing it yourself, for the most part...

and for the record, i do know quite a bit about this type of thing, I dont always let on that I can do certain things, because I love to learn from others (if you come across like you know everything, who will want to teach you). anyhow, I am constantly learning stuff (or trying to learn) and doing research... the best way to accomplish this set up is to have a realistic goal and stick to it. if you dont, you will never stop throwing money at it...

if you want a 9 sec car, then look to spend money... if you want a reliable better than stock everyday runner, then stick to that. the more you start looking around and at what others do, the more money you will spend on your setup, there are too many combo, too many things you can too and too many different ways.

keep it basic. I had dreams of having a 1100 hp/tubbed street machine (and to build it for my son), well that costs money... im just trying to get as close as I can to my dream (at a time) while still being responsible with my money).

in short, be realistic with your goal, make your list of goals... do tons of research... break your list down to parts... get a good estimate on what you think you need and what it costs, then add 1000 for good measure... then take your time and make smart buys, try your best not to get into that extra money AND PUT YOUR FAMILY FIRST! you shouldn't be doing this, if your family needs something, but we all gotta live and between this and my bike, its my vent....

dogshit,
we did chew some of the same dirt, i remember several trips between the buick and olds dealer! finally settled on the olds out of loyalty and it was cheaper, been kicking myself in the *ss ever since, but hindsight is always 20-20.
